2025 Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta

RALEIGH, NC (November 8-9, 2025) — NC State Sailing will welcome college sailors from across the Southeast to Raleigh for the 2025 Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, held November 8–9 at Lake Crabtree County Park. Now in its ninth year, the Triangle Tango has evolved from a friendly local event into one of the most sought-after fall regattas on the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) schedule.

The 2025 fleet will feature teams from NC State, Auburn University, Clemson University, Davidson College, Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, the University of South Carolina, The Citadel, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Virginia, representing some of the most active and comeptitive collegiate sailing programs in the region. Live scoring of the event will be viewable online.

“Hosting the Triangle Tango each fall is one of the highlights of our season,” said NC State Head Coach Dana Magliola. “It brings together teams from across the Southeast to compete, connect, and celebrate the sport we love, all right here in the Triangle. We’re incredibly grateful for the partners and volunteers who help make this regatta a showcase for college sailing in our community.”

This year’s regatta is presented by The Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, with additional support from our partners at Wake County Parks, Recreation & Open Space, NC State Wellness and Recreation, Allison Sails and Canvas, US Sailing, Sailors for the Sea, NC State Sustainability, Zhik, and Celsius Energy Drinks.

“I love the Triangle Tango because it’s such a great way for our team to come together at the end of the fall season,” said team captain Shea Hoffacker. “It’s one of my favorite events for that reason — everyone’s working hard, supporting each other, and celebrating what we’ve accomplished as a team.”

Celsius Energy Drinks will be at the Regatta providing on-site giveaways, and fans can pick up a limited-edition Triangle Tango poster designed by the talented Triangle-based artist Tim Christopher (@timchristopher_art) while supplies last. The striking design, inspired by classic regatta posters, will be distributed free both on campus ahead of the event and at Lake Crabtree during race weekend.

“The Triangle Tango always brings great competition, and that pushes us to raise our game,” said team captain Marc Hauenstein. “Sailing at home adds extra motivation because we want to make the Wolfpack proud.”

The 2025 Triangle Tango continues NC State Sailing’s leadership in environmental responsibility and stewardship. The event is officially certified as a Sustainable Event by the NC State Sustainability Office and an official "Clean Regatta" from Sailors for the Sea, meeting rigorous standards for waste reduction, responsible material use, and community engagement. From reusable hydration stations and to shoreline cleanup efforts and environmental education, the regatta reflects the team’s commitment to protecting the waters and environment where we train and compete. “Stewardship isn’t something that happens once a year; it’s part of how we approach every event and every practice,” said sustainability coordinator Cole Campbell. “Our team recognizes that clean water and healthy ecosystems are essential to the sport we love, and we’re proud that the Triangle Tango showcases how competition and conservation can go hand in hand.”

The Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta features double-handed dinghy racing with two divisions rotating through the fleet across two days of racing. The Lake Crabtree waterfront offers great viewing areas for spectators, and races are set to start on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and continue into the early evening, conditions and weather permitting. Sunday racing begins at 10 a.m. and will end around 2:30 p.m. Participants and spectators are also encouraged to carpool, bike, or use alternative transportation to Lake Crabtree County Park to help reduce emissions and parking impacts during the event weekend.
