SUMMER COMMUNITY SAILING IS BACK! For the fifth summer, the NC State SailPack presents community dinghy racing each week during the summer, open and free to all!
From June 6th through August 7th, community members are invited to join us every Thursday night this summer as the NC State Sailing Club and the SailPack Foundation host college-style dinghy sailing and racing at Lake Crabtree County Park! These events are FREE and open for participation to both students and community sailors. Below are details on the Series including registration information and schedule. - Registration will open on Monday AM and will close by Tuesday evening at 5PM. Additional information will be sent to those registrants in advance of Thursday's session.
- Walk-ups will not be accepted. You must register.
- Sailing will take place at the Lake Crabtree Boat Launch at the end of the park drive (link for directions) beginning at 5:30pm on Thursdays with a brief Skippers' Meeting taking place shortly thereafter.
- Boats will be assigned based on registration.
- First races will begin on the water at 6:15 pm and we'll continue racing until it's dark (usually around 8pm).
- Each race will last roughly 15-18 minutes depending on the wind. We will fit as many races as possible.
- There is no charge to participate. Donations are, of course, welcomed but not at all expected.
- Boats will be provided and races will be sailed in collegiate FJs or "Flying Juniors" which are double-handed, sloop rigged dinghies. Cruising will take place on O'Day Daysailor or Flying Scot.
- You may register as at two-person team or you will be assigned to another sailor at registration.
- Personal boats will not be eligible for competition - except Lasers which will have a separate start sequence.
- No disposable water bottles! Refillable water bottles are mandatory and refilling containers will be provided on the water.
- Minors below the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Releases must be signed by both adults and by parents of minors.
- All participants must be able to swim.
- Coast Guard approved PFDs are required to be worn at all times by all participants. We will provide PFDs if you don't have your own.
- Please park within the approved parking area at Lake Crabtree County Park and do not utilize spots reserved for boat trailers.
- Please observe all speed limits within the park and be courteous to others using this facility.
