2024 Triangle Community Sailing is Back!

The Triangle Community Sailing Series is back!

Several evenings this fall, NC State Sailing hosts college-style sailing and dinghy racing at Lake Crabtree County Park! These events are FREE and open for participation to both students and community sailors. Below are details on the Series including registration information and schedule. Registration is limited to 15 participants.

These events are FREE and open for participation to both students and community sailors. Registration IS REQUIRED for the Triangle Community Sailing Series via EVENTBRITE (follow the Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts for each week's registration link.)

MORE INFORMATION & DETAILS:

  • The Triangle Community Sailing Series will take place at the Lake Crabtree boat launch at the end of the park drive.
  • Boats will be assigned via registration online.
  • First races will begin on the water at 5:15 pm and we'll continue racing until light begins to fade.
  • Each race will last roughly 15-18 minutes depending on the wind. We will fit as many races as possible.
  • There is no charge to participate.
  • Boats will be provided and races will be sailed in collegiate FJs or "Flying Juniors" or 420s which are double-handed, sloop rigged dinghies.
  • You may participate as at two-person team however you must each register individually. You can register by yourself and will be assigned to pair with another sailor at the skippers' meeting.
  • Personal boats will not be eligible for competition - except Lasers which will have a separate start sequence. Please contact the organizers if you would like to participate with a Laser.
  • No disposable water bottles! Refillable water bottles are mandatory and refilling containers will be provided on the water.
  • Minors below the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. We request sailors must be at least 8 years old to participate.
  • Please wear closed-toe, non-marking shoes
  • All participants must be able to swim.
  • Coast Guard approved PFDs are required to be worn at all times by all participants. We will provide PFDs if you don't have your own.
  • Please park within the approved parking area at Lake Crabtree County Park and do not utilize spots reserved for boat trailers.
  • Please observe all speed limits within the park and be courteous to others using this facility.
  • If you're able to carpool, please do.

Definitions:

Experienced Skipper = you have experience sailing and can confidently, safely drive and control a dinghy sailboat. This is a racing position.

Experienced Crew = you have experience sailing and can confidently and safely crew a dinghy sailboat. This is a racing position.

New Sailor = you are new to sailing, or you are not fully capable of sailing the boat independently. You will be paired up with an experienced sailor. This is a racing position.
